Demonstrate knowledge of network communication and routing

The Certificate in Networking and Communications is designed to introduce students to the concepts and protocols of networking. You will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to manage, maintain, troubleshoot, install, operate and configure a basic network infrastructure.

At the end of the course, you will be able to design a network and then have the skills to present it to the client.

You will become familiar with the following topics:

  • Distinguish different network topologies
  • Network hardware devices, media and architectures
  • Identify the fundamentals of network security
  • Implement and configure network protocols
  • Demonstrate knowledge of network communication and routing
  • Develop phone and help desk skills to provide professional customer support
  • Develop professional reports, proposals and formal presentations
  • Troubleshoot and support networks

Entry Requirements

  • National Certificate in Computing (Level 3) or equivalent qualifications
  • Or a minimum of 48 Level 2 credits including a minimum or 8 Level 2 credits in a language rich subject
  • Or suitable industry experience
  • Access to a personal computer for off-campus learning (desirable)
