BarberCraft is an expo for barbers, would-be barbers and curious on-lookers keen for some entertainment, fun and new style ideas.
It is the only event of its kind to celebrate men’s grooming in New Zealand, showcasing the latest in barbering trends, opening the door to the rapidly changing world of the male haircut. The expo included loads of barbering competitions, which the Cut Above team were eager to enter and showcase their skills.
It was exciting to see so many of our Cut Above graduates out there competing or stopping in to support our Barbers in action! We certainly have some bragging rights; of the 14 winners, five are Cut Above students or graduates.
To name some names:
In ‘The Shave’ category, trainee winner was Matthew Edwards of Maloney's Barber Shop. Mathew completed the Certificate in barbering Level 3 at Cut Above and graduated in March 2016 going on to complete an apprenticeship with Julian Maloney.
In ‘The Beard’ category, Open Winner was Danny Edwards of Revolver Hair & Beauty Studios; Danny completed the Certificate in barbering L3 at Cut Above and graduated in October 2014.
For ‘The Classic’ category, Open Winner was David Tiumalu of Cut Above Academy whilst ‘The Pattern’ category trainee Winner was Frank Junior Bates also of Cut Above Academy currently enrolled in the Certificate in Barbering L3 and will graduate in June this year.
In ‘The Creative’ category we had another trainee Winner: Desalegn Welde-Yohanes, currently enrolled in the new NZ Certificate in Barber Skills Level 3 and will graduate in September this year.
Keep up the great work Cut Above, we’re looking forward to seeing more winners in BarberCraft 2017!
